Self-Introduction

平凡人生的不平凡際遇

我出生於苗栗縣卓蘭鎮,在家排行老二,有一個哥哥,一個弟弟及一個妹妹。約三歲左右搬到臺中市定居。母親曾告訴我,當我們剛搬到臺中時,我和哥哥聽不懂鄰居的語言(閩南語),所以偶爾會挨鄰居小孩欺負,尤其哥哥比較善良,更是被欺負的對象。父親曾跟我說,有一次我氣沖沖的出去保護哥哥並且將哭哭啼啼的哥哥牽回家。雖然我乃手足當中長相最不起眼,且常被當男孩使喚的小孩,許多瑣碎事務都是叫我跑腿完成。但因為顧家的個性,讓爸媽信任及倚靠,他們覺得我夠堅強、夠獨立,不需要為我操太多心。

和許多人一樣,大學畢業後,走入家庭,結婚生子,本想當全職家庭煮婦相夫教子,但是由於經濟因素,所以婚後繼續努力工作掙錢,個人生平無大志想就此過完一生。後來,由於父親的鼓勵及支持,並想完成他的心願,所以暫時遠離家人,獨自赴美攻讀碩士,好不容易取得學位,先生又獲錄取博士班入學通知,所以就又帶著兩個幼子,繼續待在美國。在美期間,除了全心照顧孩子外,還擔任孩子學校的義工並且加入家長會,所以經常協助學校的活動,也因此擴展個人的視野及形塑服務他人的觀念。

好景不常,由於先生的獎學金中途沒申請到,為了不斷炊,只得忍痛帶著孩子先回台灣工作,讓先生無後顧之憂在美學習。非常感恩樹德工商專科學校(修平科技大學前身)  林寶樹校長給予個人工作機會,讓全家的經濟無虞。父親及母親不斷告誡,做人要飲水思源,樹德給予我們家極大的幫助,一定要努力工作回饋學校,從小聽話的我當然戰戰兢兢的在校服務。沒想到有一天承蒙  林寶琮校長的召見,他問我還要不要進修,當下,由於第一次進校長室,又蒙校長親見,心情非常緊張,腦袋有些空白,所以脫口而出:「要」,校長接著說,要栽培我,我聽了嚇一大跳!但是我心真是非常感動,差點掉淚,今生除了父親外,  寶琮校長是對我最好的一位長輩。接著緊鑼密鼓,著手申請學校,很幸運的獲得錄取。在年已過四十又要再次獨自負笈他國,父親原先不答應,擔心我年紀已長,身體又不好,撐不下去。但是為了不負校長的期望及給孩子樹立榜樣,所以還是硬著頭皮去做,好在最後順利取得博士學位。口試通過當天,除了打電話告知父親外,馬上去書局買卡片寄給  寶琮校長,讓他放心並且感謝他的栽培。

有時候會想:一個從小毫不起眼、經常受人欺負、又無特長之人,怎會如此受到老天爺的眷顧,讓平凡的人生掀起一些波瀾?除了感謝家人的支持外,更要感謝  寶琮校長及修平的栽培,讓我的人生充滿挑戰及學習,雖然年歲漸長,但是學習從未間斷,學習讓我覺得充實滿足,誠如  寶琮校長所言:「Hsiuping is for knowledge.」。而Knowledge is from constant learning.我的人生也因為不斷學習而更顯精彩。
